Plans scrapped to block illegal filesharing websites by UK government

Vince Cable, the business secretary, claims that site blocking is too large of a task for the government and not entirely effective making it a very inefficient way to prevent file sharing. Due to this fact, the government has decided that its plans to block illegal filesharing websites is not viable and that there are better alternatives that are less costly and less time consuming. He added that the government is still however working on some type of plan that will tackle the problem of piracy.

Greek protestors storm the Acropolis

As the economic crisis continues to tear across Greece many protestors stormed towards the Acropolis this week in an effort to make their vantage point clear in regards to the price of the euro and the state of the market. The large protests caused the world market to sharply decline as many worried that Greece would be the next country to crumble under the economic pressure as the people rebel against the handling of the EU’s bailout.

The crowd was mostly made out of communist trade unionists who are angered at austerity measures made within the country in order to make it eligible for the bailout from the IMF and members of the Eurozone. (more…)

Davos imposes gender quota during forum

Every year dozens of bankers, tycoons, and prime ministers among other top leaders all arrive in Davos in Switzerland as part of the World Economic Forum.  However, one key thing has been noticed as missing throughout the year, the presence of women.

Therefore, in an attempt to help balance out the terribly sex-unbalanced committee, the organization has created a quota for the minimum amount of women that need to be included in the event.

There are about 100 ‘strategic partners’ that meet at the summit including reps from Goldman Sachs, Barclays, and Deutsche Bank and each of these were told that for every five senior executives they choose to send to the economic forum they need to bring at least one female to help balance out the numbers.
