Police accessed BlackBerry messages to thwart planned riots

Despite the fact that many rioters seemed out of control in London and various UK towns over the past week of events, police were actually able to thwart a great deal of additional attacks by using the mobile phones of those they arrested to garner information about planned illegal action. Multiple attacks were prevented across London by Scotland Yard after investigators were able to get into social networking websites to read details of the attacks by using the mobiles of those heavily involved in the riots.

As the internet becomes more advanced and technological gadgets allow us to do practically everything in out lives from banking to making large term investments from a single platform many people are wondering if technology poses a threat to our private life.

The truth is that the internet is quickly becoming a minefield in the same way that it is benefiting us. Not only is online credit fraud and identity theft growing by the year, but socially the internet is starting to have an impact on our personal lives and our professional lives.
